19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been earned on hard surfaces

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his first championship for nearly 30 months with success over opponent Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a torrid year, winning just a single victory at the major tournaments and undergoing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serve in particular - caused him exiting of the elite rankings and ultimately separating with long-term trainer his previous coach.

Now training with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily advanced in the recent weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought competitive victory over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's first title after the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard court since March of the previous year.

Victory also indicates Medvedev has won 21 victories at twenty-one different competitions.

"For the first time I have attended a event with my both daughters together, so to get a trophy is particularly special," stated ranked player Medvedev.

"This championship is in tribute of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I achieved when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had been defeated in his previous six title deciders, including in the German tournament in the past months.

His defensive approach and regular reactions on the playing surface had led observers to doubt if his ability to perform at the highest level was finished.

Yet the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, striving to approach the net and compete positively, backed up by an improved serving game.

He came back from a deficit in the first set against the challenging Frenchman, securing four of the concluding five points to go ahead.

The pair exchanged breaks in the middle set before the challenger, attempting for his maiden professional victory, took control to force a third set.

He rescued four initial opportunities in a tight final set before Medvedev secured a break to that score to close out the victory.

Suitably, he secured the win with a rally at the net, with the Frenchman failing to manage a return after a lengthy match.
